DepicT Research

A2042

The first video that I chose called 'A2042' is about a riot police officer that is hiding from some kind of riot. I chose this because of the use of camera work, lighting and soundtrack. This video is filmed with just one scene but as the camera slowly zooms out, the viewer slowly gets a reveal as to why he is crying (The police officer.)
I think that the producers of this film did a very good job to create a very dramatic and harrowing atmosphere using lighting, sound and visual effects.  Also they kept the film running very smoothly with just the one shot.

How to Tell When a Relationship is Over

The second video that I chose called 'How to Tell When a Relationship is Over' is about a couple going through stages of a failing relationship. I like this because there is a lot of humor, even in the scenes where there is no dialogue. The producers of this film have only used one camera shot (medium - long) throughout but the film doesn't get boring because there is a lot that goes on during each scene. For example in the scene where it randomly breaks into a 'French film'.

The difference between this film and 'A2042' is that this film is made interesting by the actors and the humor where as in 'A2042' the film was made interesting using the sound effects, visual effects and camera work.

Salt

The last DepicT video, I chose is called 'Salt' and is about a presumed husband and wife. Although the story line is not so clear, at first it looks like they have a very miserable relationship due to the actors facial expressions and lack of dialogue. And when the wife pours the salt into the pan it's as if she despises the husband.

As the video continues, there is a noticeable lack of dialogue and all you really here is the ambient sound. This film seems very empty because of the sound and also the long, dull camera shots.
But all of a sudden, at the end of the video, the two begin to laugh, which really gives this a mixed message. The fact that it starts of rather depressing and then ends on a happier note.
